Callaway Epic Flash Driver Review (First Look)
The new Epic Flash Driver from Callaway has once again raised the bar on what’s possible with driver technology. After 15,000 iterations to the face geometry using AI technology, Callaway has crafted a new face design that will increase ball speed.
It will retail in stores starting February 1, 2019 for $530. The Epic Flash fairway woods will retail for $300.
This places them at a similar price point to the new 2019 TaylorMade M5 & M6 Driver / Fairway Woods.
Epic Flash Driver Technology
The Epic Flash Driver gets it’s name from the new Flash face technology.
The new driver face has a non-intuitive face pattern where they were able to change thickness in different parts of the face to create thicker areas and thinner areas that maximizes ball speed. Think of it like ripples running from the heel to the toe of the club face.
The new 2019 Epic Flash driver features Callaway’s Jailbreak technology. They insert metal bars into the club face to stiffen the clubhead for more face flex and speed.
Callaway refined the shapes of the bars to be in an hourglass shape which helped save weight from the bars – located in the front portion of the club head – and repositioned that saved weight in the rear of the clubheads to raise MOI.

It also has a new triaxial carbon crown for more weight savings and increased MOI. The crown is said to have a tighter weave that saves weight from the top of the club head, creating a higher MOI and thus giving you more forgiveness.
You’ll also enjoy the adjustable perimeter weighting (16g sliding weight in the standard model, 12g in the Sub Zero) for shot shape customization to fit your needs and swing style.
All of this technology has been shown to increase ball speeds another 2mph according to the Callaway engineering team.

Callaway Epic Flash Fairway Woods
The Epic Flash fairway woods are also built with Flash face technology for better ball speeds. They also include jailbreak technology to stiffen the body for more face flex.
But what differentiates the fairway woods from the Epic Flash drivers is the forged Carpenter Steel construction. When combined with Face Cup technology, this produces not only more speed but also more forgiveness on off-center hits.
The Epic Flash woods also feature a new, lighter and shorter OptiFit hosel, which not only allows for loft and face angle adjustment but also helps create a lower CG location. This will help improve your launch from both the tee and the fairway.
The Sub Zero model also has adjustable sole weights (16g and 2g) that can be swapped from front to back for launch and spin rate tuning.
These woods launched February 1, 2019 for $300. You can check Amazon here for 2019 Callaway Epic fairway woods.
